If you’re coming to inline from ice hockey you may wonder why inline players wear roller hockey pants and girdles instead of using ice hockey pants and socks. Roller Hockey gets hot and is generally less physical than ice hockey. Inline pants are well ventilated and an inline girdle/pant combo are lighter and more streamlined than ice hockey pants. 

You could use ice pants and traditional socks, but you’ll be much hotter using that setup than in a good inline setup. Some people do start with that setup and once they switch to inline pants, they realize that they can play with a little less weight and be cooler.
